29.11.24 - Drama!
In Green Base we have been finishing our work on Last Stop on Market Street. The children have been doing drama to learn the story off by heart ready to innovate it in the next few weeks. These drama lessons have also allowed the children to look at direct speech and work out what the characters say to put inside their inverted commas.
22.11.24 - Reading!
ver the last two weeks in Green Base, we have had a delivery of new, exciting books for the children to engage with and read. We have had the pleasure of seeing our pupils read with a variety of adults from all over school, this has been with support staff, teachers and reading volunteers. We really want our pupils to enjoy reading and to see it as an opportunity to transport themselves to anywhere they’d like to go! Reading can do that, it is a powerful tool and one that everyone at Bankside is keen to harness to help our children. Please continue to care for our books, respect them and take pride in their appearance to others can enjoy them in the future.
22.11.24 - Swinsty Reservoir Walk!
Green Base enjoyed a wintery walk around the picturesque Swinsty Reservoir. We used the trip to focus on the landscapes of the surrounding areas, paying particular attention to what was in the foreground and background. This experience will further enhance the children’s knowledge of landscapes and will contribute significantly to their art lessons. The children experienced autumn colours, yellows, browns, oranges and reds. It was a real pleasure to see the children enjoying the nature trail and experience a woodland walk.
15.11.24 - Anti-Bullying Week!
During PSHE this week, the focus was around Anti-Bullying. We worked in pairs to look at different scenarios and used drama to show how we would respond to certain situations by always choosing RESPECT.
08.11.24 - Literacy!
This week in Green Base, we have started reading a new book, The Last Stop on Market Street! The children started to identify and understand the key features of a story that they need to be able to write one. We have enjoyed getting to know the characters and the key lesson behind it! Here, the children were acting out the story in groups and thoroughly enjoyed showcasing what they had done!
25.10.24 - PE!
This week Green Base have been using their PE Lessons to create movement sequences, focusing on different levels and movements. Crab walk, bear walk, rolls and then adding in apparatus to develop their movements.
18.10.24 - History!
To finish our history project about the Stone Age, Green Base had a really exciting morning with Luke from Alive and Kicking Theatre company. They spent the morning using their knowledge of the Stone Age to perform a story about Nala and Gam, and then they had a mock trial in the classroom. The children then created cave paintings based on the story.
11.10.24 - PSHE!
In PSHE the last 2 weeks, we have been focusing on diversity and respect. We have created flags to show the different places our families have come from. These will be used to create a display in the hall to celebrate the diversity in our Green Base community.
04.10.24 - Science!
In Green Base we have been looking at light and shadows. The children have looked at different light sources and how shadows are formed. They have also investigated how to stay safe in the sun and how the sun is a natural light source.
27.09.24 - Reading!
In Green Base this week, we have started comprehension lessons. The children are given a piece of text and they need to question what they are reading by asking themselves “I wonder…” or “I predict…” this is really good for the children to develop not only their reading skills but also their knowledge of the vocabulary. It allows the children turn their enquiry cog to question what they are reading. Here are some examples of what the children have questioned about this text.
20.09.24 - Maths!
In maths green base have been focusing on place value and ordering numbers. The staff are continuing to help the children develop their collaboration cogs and to work together to solve mathematical problems.
13.09.24 - Reading!
Welcome to Green Base’s reading areas! The children get to spend time in these each week, choosing books to read and getting cosy like Ms Begum reading for pleasure! These are interactive, and the children get to vote on which stories they have at the end of the day! Here’s all the stories that Green 3 have read already this year!
06.09.24 - Welcome Back to school!
We have been really excited to welcome Year 3 pupils back to school and to get to know the children in our classes. We have been busy with some team building activities which have helped us to use our resilience learning cog, particularly when our learning is challenging. Our new teachers have been very impressed with the children's mature attitude to learning!

05.07.24 - History!
In history this week, Green Base have been investigating Roman artefacts. It was interesting to see how similar some of these things are to objects we used today! Although the children were glad we have toilet roll, not just a sponge on a stick!
21.06.24 - Euros 2024!
This week in Green Base we have been really enjoying our learning based on the Euros 2024. We have been making our own table football games, creating football poetry and have analysed football statistics. Here are some pictures of Green Base representing data based on points scored in the Premier League this season.
14.06.24 - Literacy!
In Green Base this week we have continued to unpick the story Escape from Pompeii. This week we have been doing some drama and recreating some of the scenes from the story. The children had to think very hard about how and what their bodies are representing and where different things need to be placed. This will support them in their writing next week as we will be writing sentences that begin with adverbial phrases for place.
07.06.24 - Literacy
In Green Base this week we have started looking at the text Escape from Pompeii. We have spent lots of time getting to know the book and examining the illustrations. The children had a go at drawing as illustrators. Have a look at their Roman buildings and ships below!
24.05.24 - Geography!
In geography this week Green Base have been investigating how pressure can cause volcanic eruptions. Instead of covering the class with boiling hot lava the children used vinegar, washing up liquid and bicarbonate of soda!
17.05.24 - Maths!
In Green Base we have started looking at time in maths. The children have been using clocks to show the time to 5 minutes. Next week we will be moving on to solving problems to do with time.
10.05.24 - Literacy!
In English, Green Base have been looking at the features of a non-chronological report. Here are the actions that the children created to help them remember some of the features.
26.04.24 - Angry Earth!
In green base this week we have been starting our new topic on Angry Earth. We researched the impact of deforestation and then created posters to be the voice of nature. We then had a march around school chanting “Stop deforestation!”
15.04.24 - Benjamin Zephaniah Week!
For Benjamin Zephaniah week, Green Base have been looking at the artistry of poetry. They have spent time discussing how poetry needs to be performed and having a go at performing it themselves! They have looked at how the layout of poetry is important and how it can change how poems are read. To do this they copied out the poem ‘Football Mad’ in the correct layout, then illustrated it. We have also been learning about Benjamin’s life and the Jamaican culture, through artwork and music.
08.03.24 - RE!
In Green Base the children listened to the biblical story ‘ Befriending of Zacchaeus,. We discussed the story as a class and what true friendships are. The children then sequenced the story and made friendship bracelets to give to their friends in the class.
01.03.24 - Art!
Following on from our work on the artist Edward TingaTinga, this week we have been trying to sketch African wildlife. We are pleased with the results!
23.02.24 - Art!
This week in Green base we have started to look at a new artist, Edward Tinga Tinga. The children have enjoyed learning some facts about the artist and trying to draw in the style of Tinga. We have had a really focused week back and we are enjoying our creative topic!
02.02.24 - Super Science!
In science, Green Base have been looking at how plants transfer water, which links to our topic of river and water. We have also been learning about the parts of the water cycle. Did you know only 2% of the water on Earth can be used by humans? The children were fascinated when they found this fact! The children learnt the topic words: precipitation, accumulation, evaporation and condensation and they were able to say how they related to the water cycle.
22.01.24 - Marvellous Maths!
In Green Base, maths has looked very practical this week. The children have been investigating multiplication and division using objects and then writing different equations based on each practical model. This has looked like; using counters to build arrays, cubes to show the difference between sharing and grouping for division, Base 10 to multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. The children have really engaged with this hands-on approach and shown progress throughout the week. On Wednesday, the children used their recall skills to remember how to do column addition. It's been a long time since they learnt this skill, but the children took on the challenge and were incredible!
15.01.24 - Focus on Literacy!
This week in Green Base we have been investigating letter writing. As part of our exciting learning, we have been analysing letters and looking at the structure of this text type. In this activity, the children are putting a letter in order and labelling the features all while using their collaborative cog. We will be using this learning when writing and editing our own letters as part of our topic this term!
